热镀锌方管基材与熔化的镀液产生繁杂的物理学、化学变化，产生抵腐蚀的构造密切的锌一有色金属层。铝合金层与纯锌层、方钢管基材融为一体，所以抵腐蚀工作能力强。

镀锌方管的主要作用知识，而冷镀锌方管热镀锌层是电镀工艺层，锌层与方钢管基材单独分层次。锌层较薄，锌层简易粘附在方钢管基材上，非常容易掉下来。所以耐蚀性会差，因此在新创建住房中，严禁应用冷镀锌方管做为排水管道。
